Find Part Time Jobs L.A.

Any two column Google Spreadsheet can become a set of flashcards or a reference guide.  We have created three templates that:
· makes creating content easy,
· gives you control over how certain fields display on your mobile device,
· gives you control over certain modes, e.g., in gFlash+ you can disable multiple choice, Study Mode, and Q&A reversal
· makes the content search-able if you later share the document with gWhizMobile@gmail.com (for gFlash+) or  gWhizMobile.Ref@gmail.com (for gRef)

Please select the template that best fits your needs and device:

gFlash+ Two Column Flashcard Template (for iPhone/iPod touch and BlackBerry):
· Two column: Question (Column A) & Answer (Column B) format
· Column B can also be used as a source of three alternative answers when viewed in multiple choice mode
· Supports hosted image urls for questions and answers (except when viewed as multiple choice answers)
· Supports html text formating (bold, italic, etc.)

gFlash+ Multiple Choice Test Template (for iPhone/iPod touch running 0.4i or later version):
· One Question (Column A) and with up to five unique Answers (Column B thru F)
· Typically used to prepare for academic tests and certification exams
· Supports hosted image urls for questions

gRef Reference Guide Template (for the BlackBerry):
· one label (Column A) with supporting detail in (Column B).
· Typically used for carrying useful reference lists: computer commands, index of terms, recipes, etc.

If you do not already have a Google account, you can set one up for FREE at www.google.com by selecting the Gmail link on the top left and then “Sign up for Gmail”.  After you set up Gmail, you will want to select the Documents link to set up your Google Documents which allows you to create and edit spreadsheets.

Please follow the instructions below or review our brief creating and sharing flashcards demonstration from your desktop.

To use a gWhiz Template:
· Click on the appropriate link above.
· You will be able to view the spreadsheet but you will need to sign in to Google Documents to make any changes
· Once signed in to Google Documents, select "File" and "Create a copy..."  in the drop down menu.  Name the file as you would like it to appear on your device.
· You'll see we have prepopulated the template with labels indicating where your data should be entered, e.g., questions in Column A, answers in Column B.
· Once you've entered your data, it's ready to use on your device.  Use the "Get My Google Data..." option on your device, log in to your account, and select the spreadsheet you have created to download it.  See the "Adding Flashcards" section if you have trouble with this step.
· You're done!  Well almost ... if you think the information would be useful to someone else, please share it with the gWhiz Catalog or a friend, see "Sharing Flashcards" for details.
· Also, a tip for Google spreadsheets; intra-cell multi-line entries requires a shift+enter or control+return (depending on your desktop computer type) to stay in the same cell.   gFlash+ will automatically wrap text but if you want items to display on separate rows, you may find this helpful.

EXTRA FOR EXPERTS...

Image Cardsets
· gFlash+ and gRef both support image files hosted on the internet, see "Dog Breeds" or "Sign Language" in the gWhiz Catalog as examples.
· An active data connection is required on the device to display the image.
· Enter the whole url reference to the image and it will be called in realtime when the application displays that item, e.g., http://www.gwhizmobile.com/myimage.png
· The “http:” must start in the first character of the cell.  If you do not want to scroll around to see the entire image, 220x145 pixels is probably a good size (varies by mobile device).

HTML Text Formating
Several customers have requested more control over how cardset data is displayed on the iPhone.  By setting the "usewebview" field on the -info worksheet in the gFlash+ Two Column Flashcard Template to TRUE, the html formats (e.g., size, bold, italics) will be displayed on the device.  A tip, you can use Google Documents (not spreadsheets) to create and format the text appropriately, then using the "Edit", "Edit HTML" feature, the raw HTML can be copied and pasted into the appropriate cell in the Google Spreadsheet you would like formatted.

The "-info" worksheet:
On the second worksheet in each template you can control certain aspects of the way the data set is displayed.  At a minimum, please fill out the "Description" and "Tags" fields.  We plan to enhance our search capability in the future and it will make it it much easier for others to search if the file has a recognizable name and these two fields completed.  See the template for definitions of how each tag works.

Note that:
· If you use any of the settings on the -info worksheet, make sure that the first and second worksheet have the same name, differing only by the -info extension.
· Do not change the contents of Column A on the -info worksheet, enter your data in Column B next to the appropriate label.

Fields that Apply to Both gFlash+ and gRef:
· "tags": add words here that will help a search engine find the content, similar to keywords you would use in a library search.  Separate each tag with a space.
· "description": enter a text description that will be displayed as the subtitle line you see in the gFlash+ or gRef application on the mainscreen.
· "titleoverride": (BlackBerry Only) overrides the convention of using the first worksheet's name (e.g., Sheet1) name for the content name.  The value entered here becomes the displayed title on the device.
· "author": If desired, enter an author.  This will be displayed from "View Set Info..." on the application mainscreen or when looking at the gWhiz Catalog on a desktop computer.
· "copyright": Currently all gWhiz data sets are distributed via a GNU Free Documentation License.  See the gWhiz Terms & Conditions for details.

Fields that Only Apply to gFlash+:
· "multiplechoice": TRUE or FALSE.  Enter TRUE (the default if nothing is entered) if you would like Multiple Choice Mode to work with this cardset, enter FALSE if not.  NOTE: Applies only to two column gFlash+ spreadsheets where you would like gFlash+ to randomly display three alternative answers from other rows in Column B.
· "reversable": TRUE or FALSE.  Enter TRUE (the default) if you would like questions and answers to be reversible on the Front and Back of the cards, enter FALSE if not.  Making the questions and answers reversable is helpful for learning different languages, however, it is not appropriate for most trivia cardsets.
· "testonlymode": TRUE or FALSE.  Enter FALSE if you would like both Test and Study Modes. If set to TRUE, does not allow "Study Mode"; all uses of this cardset are scored.
· "welcomemessage":  This message will pop-up when you start this cardset.  For example, you'll see this pop-up for any of our existing gWhiz cardsets.
· "overrideR2L":  TRUE or FALSE.  Enter TRUE if your flashcard set contains a language that reads left to right (e.g., Arabic, Hebrew).  NOTE: Applicable only for the iPhone/iPod touch.
· "usewebview": Enter TRUE if you would like to use HTML formatting in your cardset to control bold, italics, font size, etc.  The default is FALSE and gFlash+ will automatically format the text for the device screen.  Not supported for multiple choice spreadsheets.  NOTE: Applicable only for the iPhone/iPod touch.

Fields that Only Apply to the gRef Template:
· "hidepreview": When in a reference guide, hides Detail when set to TRUE, making the list visually easier to scroll through.  Default is FALSE or blank.
· "switchlabeldetail": By default gRef uses column A for the Label and column B for Detail.  Set to TRUE to reverse Label and Detail.  Default is FALSE or blank.

Once you've created the content, follow the adding content instructions for loading it on your mobile device.  You can also share your content like any other document in Google Documents.  Just select "Share" and enter the email addresses for collaborators and select their permissions.  See "Collaborating and Publishing" within http://documents.google.com/support/ for more information.
